Why Oh Why Are Kids Eating Tide Pods?

New trends among the youth seem to appear every few months, from the ice bucket challenge to the cinnamon challenge we thought we had seen it all. Some challenges have a purpose such as raising money for a cause, others have no purpose and may pose a health risk. A new challenge has arisen and it is literally putting an end to internet challenges as we know it. Seeming to be a joke originating on Twitter the “Tide pod” challenge is being taken full speed by the confused youth. The challenge is simple, post a video of yourself or an equally dumb friend, eating a tide pod. Videos vary of people eating tide pods all kinds of different ways such as putting them in a blender mixed in a smoothie or sautéing them in a pan.

Now it’s no shock that laundry detergent is toxic when ingested by humans. Poison control released a statement saying that there has been upward of fifteen calls a day related to tide pod instances. Which drives the question why are people doing this? Besides the newly sparked hunger for laundry detergent Tide’s stock is remaining steady as ever. It is pretty obvious people are eating these pods for some soon to fade attention on social platforms. To some, the risk of severe harm or even death is worth fifteen minutes of fame.

Laundry detergent is a smell distinctly remembered by most, this is due to how strong the chemicals are that make up laundry detergent. The environmental protection agency classifies detergent as a human carcinogen, exposure to even just a small amount of inhalation can cause drowsiness and irritation of the throat and lungs. When ingested these heavy chemicals that make up the distinct smell literally poison the body, if one survives the encounter with eating tide pods, they may face severe kidney and liver damage.

One would never think that they would have to tell people “Hey you probably shouldn’t eat that tide pod” but the time to panic has arrived. In a world where famine, wildfires, and political injustice exist seemingly everywhere, America is busy keeping themselves from eating laundry detergent. Do yourself a favor and put the tide pods on the top shelf, out of reach from anyone who may actually put one of these pods in their body.

Chillhop Music’s festive

Hope you all still have some willpower left after finals week if you’re attending a university. Something that helped my while I was studying for my finals was Lo-fi hip hop. It’s about as simple as it sounds, just a subgenre of hip hop, but simple doesn’t mean bad. You might’ve seen a channel for live streams on YouTube or playlists on Spotify by Chillhop for studying or gaming, and for good reason. The tracks all possess the same rhythm for the most part, and whether the song is lyrical or otherwise, it’s all relaxing. If you’ve already heard of the genre or you’re interested, I figure I should give you some good artists and songs. For songs, Waking Up Late by Aso is one I’ve come to enjoy, heck Aso himself is a good artist for the genre, lots of piano in the background. Vscrl by invention_ and Change by B-side are also good tracks. In terms of artists, Aso and invention_ are my two favorites, but then again, I’m a sucker for piano in a hip hop track. Lo-fi is a very relaxing take on the genre we all know and love, and it’s very unlikely that you won’t enjoy it.

On The Rise Artist: Masego

Trap Jazz artist, Masego.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! While you try to sleep off your ham, or turkey, I suggest lending your ear to the artist known as Masego, a “Trap House Jazz” style artist. If that doesn’t sound interesting I don’t know what’ll pique your interest. The name sounds weird, but once you listen to one or two songs, you’ll understand why he calls his music that. In the song Girls That Dance, he even starts scatting towards the end. Masego truly brings a fresh take to music, each beat and each set of lyrics have something unexpected and pleasantly surprising. Most of his tracks are on spotify and YouTube, but all of them can be found on his SoundCloud page. He released the track Tadow a month ago, and it’s more of a vibe than his more popular tracks, as they’re all very upbeat and somewhat fast paced. Masego has also collaborated with other artists like Medasin on the song Girls that dance, or when he featured in Yams by staRo. Masego’s got an incredibly bright future having brought a seemingly new genre to the table, and he’s turned hip hop on its head. If you want to see him live, he’s touring in Australia and he’ll be playing tomorrow! …on the off chance you aren’t able to drop everything and fly to Australia, he’s also playing in Pomona, California on the 16th of December and Pima County, Arizona on the 28th of January. I’m making plans for at least one of the shows, and after giving Masego a listen, you probably will too.

Artist on the Rise: Kaiydo

Up and coming artist, Kaiydo

A 20 year old artist from Atlanta named Keiondre Boone might just become your new favorite rapper. He’s currently released five tracks using the stage name Kaiydo, and all five are on his website, Kaiydo.com, as well as Soundcloud and the main five are on Spotify and Youtube. Kaiydo.com being a website, along with his own merch and album/song cover art, made himself despite not being a mainstream artist that people know right away when hearing his name.. Each of his tracks is one you can turn up to despite all having upbeat tones to them. One of the most surprising facts about his music is there isn’t any profanity in them. Not that it’s the most uncommon thing in the world, but it’s still interesting to find rap without swearing in modern music. In Fruit Punch, his most popular track, he talks about his aspirations like “a comma stream,” and “eight figures.” He’s obviously got the ambition to make it big in the music industry, and he’s got the talent. Chances are you haven’t heard of him before, but now that you have, you should definitely go check out his work if you’re a fan of the genre.

Rap and hip hop being our two main music genres in our generation everybody wants to be a rapper. At the end of the day though we all have that one friend with bars for days and then there are those with bars for eternity. Joyner Lucas is a amazing artist with impeccable flow. Along with his different styles he has mastered the way of telling two sides of a story through one song while also sending a message out. You can never say he is too deep or he is too hype this man keeps putting out songs with styles you’ll never expect. He keeps us all on the edge of our seat. A young artist still coming up Street has been in comedic vids with DashieXp and working with other artist on this list like Shizzy Vl. Through his storytelling music he gives off so many different vibes that’s it crazy. Taking real life events from his own experience or not he puts it all into a track. To add on to this he is also a Christian rapper so he is educational, inspirational, lyrical, and above all else family friendly. I suggest you check out his latest project DARK SUMMER.

Shizzy Vl

Vl Seconds, Poseidon, Shizzy Vl, or the Anime Rap God; this artist goes by many names but under anyone of them he can still kill any beat. Starting his YouTube career through freestyles based off cartoons, anime, video games, or even comics; Shizzy is a young man from Brooklyn making a way through music. Growing up he was a bullied kid and uses his experience in his music. He may not be family friendly like Street Light but he is just as lyrical if not more so. He keeps his music honest but also can change between a slow or fast flow along with softer or stronger lyrics. He’s worked with Street Light, Devvon Terrell and many more.

King Imprint

Benny Imprint, better known as King Imprint, is not only a dancer but a true representative of our community. From being apart of the fresh empire to being a main character in a Youtube Red movie he proves you can do anything you put your mind to as long as you stay focused and work for it. He has worked with a multitude of amazing dancers and has even been in the music videos of major artist.

 

 

Kida The Great

Leon Burns, aka Kida the Great, is one the best and one of the youngest in the game. He started off with simple videos that went viral ranging from dance battles and freestyle dances. These all lead up to him being on So You Think You Can Dance and winning at age 15 in the year 2016.

Another big name in our generation of dance is Fikshun. At 18 he tried out for season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance. After that he performed on World Of Dance multiple times by himself and with Dytto another mention on this list. His goofy but extraordinary style of dance entertains all who watch him perform.

Domo and Crissy have been on Youtube for a year and a half, and have inspired so many people along the way. They too are a young couple known for their wild and outrageous pranks, along with vlogs, wacky challenges, a few storytimes, and an overall positive vibe. Aside from being youtube stars, the two are mothers to 4 month old Domonic, motivational speakers, dabble in the music industry, and are going on tour!

Both getting their start on Vine, David Dobrik and Liza Koshy developed careers and fan bases of their own.
